Guys! We’re three weeks into this series and I’m super excited about it! I hope you all are enjoying this series as much as I am!
Today I want to talk about something that I’ve been learning about all year long: fighting the real battles and winning!
Fighting battles has always been something I try to avoid. I do not like conflict. If I feel like someone is upset with me, it is very tempting for me to believe the lie that I am the cause of that person’s frustration or disappointment. Being a very sensitive person, I tend to shove all my feelings away so that I don’t hurt myself or anyone else’s feelings. This, dear friends, I’ve learned is not healthy. When I suppress my feelings, I become very susceptible to a victim mentality. And that’s exactly where satan wants me to be.
The enemy has thrown a lot of things my way this year. Most of the time, those things have been disguised with people or purposes that I deeply value. The enemy has a sneaky way of hiding the real battle in an area he knows you are weak. Sometime during early summer, all of a sudden, I started to notice that I felt very attacked by people I really love. Somewhere in the back of my mind I knew that these people had absolutely no intention of hurting me. However, because I had been surprising feelings for so long, I didn’t see that right away. I fell into a victim mentality and started complaining to God. One day, after a particularly hard day at work, I was talking to God and expressing that I felt like I was being attacked from every side and didn’t know where was most important to start fighting back. Quietly and gently, Jesus whispered to me, “You’re fighting all the wrong battles, Hannah. You’re letting your feelings blind you from seeing what this really is. You need to fight the real battles, the spiritual ones. That’s all this is. It’s a spiritual battle. And guess what? You’re going to win because I am on your side.”
So I gave God all my feelings and started praying. And I prayed hard. I interceded for my situation. And guess what?! Jesus was on my side and I won! The more I prayed, the more my frustration decreased. I partnered with God and started fighting the real battle. I reclaimed everything that was mine through Jesus and began taking back the holy ground satan had tried to steal.
Today, I’m going to give you three steps to fighting where it matters! Are you ready?! Here we go!
- Recognize the real battle. You may be wondering what I mean by the real battle. Isn’t it a battle when someone says something really unkind to you and your immediate response is defense? Well, it may look like the person doing the hurting is the enemy, but actually it’s a spiritual battle. Our pastor once said something brilliant that I’ve never forgotten! It’s a great way for me to recognize if what I’m facing is a spiritual battle or not. She said, “The enemy will always go for what God wants you to stand for.” Brilliant! When I feel attacked in places I know God has called me to, I always begin interceding for my position and calling in that place. If God called me to it, He will make sure I come through the battles a victor!
- Praise and patience. Two key things to winning a spiritual battle are to praise and to have patience. The prime example of this is in Exodus 17(msg) when the Israelites are fighting the Amalekites. “It turned out that whenever Moses raised his hands, Israel was winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, Amalek was winning. But Moses’ hands got tired. So they got a stone and set it under him. He sat on it and Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on each side. So his hands remained steady until the sun went down. Joshua defeated Amalek and its army in battle.” Moses was in a physical position of praise. When the world started weighing down on him and he got weary, he came out of a position of praise and started losing the fight. But with perseverance and patience, in a position of praise, he won the battle and took back what was rightfully The Lord’s. You have all authority to do the same!
- Respond victoriously! One of the things I’ve learned about winning spiritual battles is that you have to have the mindset of a victor! When I go into prayer warrior mode to fight spiritual battles, I always start by thanking God in advance for my victory. You already have the victory! That’s what the cross was for! You just have to be bold enough to access that victory! I promise you, Jesus wants you to be victorious over the enemy!
I pray that you would take hold of these steps and start winning your own spiritual battles! I’m telling you, the devil has absolutely no place in your life so don’t be afraid to fight him! You have been given ALL authority! So stay positive, speak truth over yourself, and fight your battles victoriously!
All grace, power, and love to you in Jesus’ name!
Don’t forget to check back next Friday for the final week of our series! It’s going to be great!!!
